Post separation abuse training

I offer specialist training for professionals on post-separation abuse, based on my book Beyond the Break-Up. This interactive course explores how abuse often changes—and in many cases intensifies—after a relationship has ended, giving practitioners a deeper understanding of the risks and dynamics at play.

The training combines practical guidance with psychological insight. We explore the steps survivors may take—such as reporting to the police, pursuing court orders, and documenting ongoing behaviour—while recognising that these actions alone often don’t stop the abuse. Alongside this, there is a strong focus on helping survivors develop new ways of thinking and responding, so they can manage ongoing abuse with greater resilience and reduce its impact.

Delegates learn how to support survivors in recognising triggers, shifting unhelpful thought patterns, and adopting strategies that reduce the perpetrator’s influence. The aim is to help survivors feel more in control, less reactive, and better equipped to navigate continued post-separation abuse.

The Post-Separation Abuse Programme covers:

• Harassment & stalking
• Isolation & social connections
• Legal abuse
• Economic abuse
• Abuse of children post-separation
• Counter-parenting
• Supporting children affected by their father’s abuse
• Self-blame & shame
• Triggering communications
• Seeking to win his validation
• Regaining control
• Strengthening relationship boundaries
• Case studies

This training provides a comprehensive understanding of the most common forms of post-separation abuse, alongside the legal, practical, and safeguarding responses available. It is highly interactive, using active learning to build confidence and deepen understanding.

With a strong emphasis on recovery and empowerment, professionals leave with both the insight and practical tools needed to more effectively support survivors.

Costings – I try to keep these as low as possible because I mostly train the charity sector. Costs depend on a number of factors but I don’t want costs to be a barrier to accessing this training.
